TNR is a humane approach to addressing community cat populations. It improves the lives of community cats, reduces complaints about the cats, and stops the breeding cycle. This stabilizes the population of community cats and allows them to co-exist more peacefully with humans in our shared environment.
So what is TNR? In a TNR program, community cats are humanely trapped, brought to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ear tipped. The cat is then returned to the area where they were trapped to live out the remainder of their lives.
The historical approach to controlling community cat populations has been to catch and kill the outdoor cats to control the populations. This approach has and will continue to fail. After a catch and kill operation occurs it creates space for new cats to move in and breed and the population grows again.
For more information about TNR you can check out Alley Cat Allies online as they have gathered an incredible amount of information. If you would like to participate in a TNR event, please contact our office.
Please note: We cannot trap cats for you, if you would like to participate, you will have to trap and transport the cats to us. Cats must be returned to the area where they were trapped. We would love to provide this service for free, but may not have the funding to support a free TNR clinic.
